Life is Never What You Think It Will Be
Man and woman make plans, God laughs. But God isn’t laughing because you made a plan. In fact, it’s good that you made a plan. It means you value something enough to want to experience it. It means that something is important enough for you to make a list of things in order to achieve it.
The reason God laughs is because you think that everything will go according to plan. The handyman will arrive on time. The marriage will always be idyllic. The schoolwork will always be done in no more than thirty minutes. Healing will be linear.
We need things to go according to plan because it gives us control over our lives. Lives that we were never in control of to begin with. Lives that have factors and variables that we know nothing about.
And when we have to face the reality that we cannot fully dictate what occurs in life, we get incensed. Think about anyone you’ve considered a spoilt brat. They always want things in their way and never take into consideration anyone else. Don’t we all fall into this trap from time to time?
We get so bogged down on what we want that when one thing goes awry, we imagine everything else going to hell too. If this thing doesn’t happen at this time, everything else will be a disaster.
