Careful what you use to attract people.

As a kid I realized that some women are very attracted to men (and women) who have a certain financial advantage. And to be fair, there are some guys who are very attracted to women (and men) who hold the same trait.

But I also realized that even if one had a lot of money, it might not be safe to lead with that. I wanted to be chosen for me. If I was rich, then yes, the money is a part of me but I wouldn’t want to be reduced to moneybags Jason.

So whenever I saw friends who put their hope in the money to make them attractive, I cautioned them against it. I tried to get them to remember that they were awesome people but it didn’t work.

The reason it didn’t work is the reason they chose that route in the first place. They didn’t believe that they had anything to offer a woman. As a result, they gave themselves a desirable trait that unfortunately attracts a specific type of person.

Of course, we see this same principle with women who boost their physical beauty to attract men. There nothing inherently wrong with doing that, just as there’s nothing inherently wrong with making a lot of money.

The motive is the point of contention. If a woman is boosting her looks in order to attract a partner but believes she has no other desirable trait and may even claim that people are only…
