1. You still want something from them

There’s a reason you got with them in the first place. You have needs, and perhaps, they can scratch your back while you scratch theirs in return. You are still operating under the notion that they are willing or capable of meeting your needs without harming you.

However, if you are separating from one another, it’s because someone cannot meet the needs of the other. You may think that they can meet your needs, or they think they can meet your needs. But if that were true, why is there separation?

The solution is to focus on the fact that it is over because needs are not being met anymore. By focusing on the reality of the situation rather than hope or the initial feelings of the relationship, you will be able to let go of the relationship that is already over.
